Day 14: Big holes and long walk.

Took up the temptation to bake! Mmmmm yummy. So many jokes going around about how much baking people are doing. Feels good.

Feeling lucky, again for where we live. Rode our bikes to the bay beach, shovels in hand… to dig holes!

Heath dug a huge cave hole.

Alex and I walked down to the cape and left two boys and two shovels. Braved the wind and a few showers. Returned to some big “cave” holes. Simple pleasures…

Day 13: Monday… rain day 3 – beach anyway! Watching wind and waves.

Crazy kids wrestling… need to get outside!
Alex’s project at the moment….
Finn dug a hole by hand…

Day 10: School work for the kids? But Mum… it’s school holidays!

Last week of school term was crazy… trying to juggle working from home and online learning so it is only natural that I not worry about my own children’s school work, right? Today I finally had a good look at what was set and realized the battle (kids at home don’t want to do school work) that lay ahead.

Our “hallway” school work board

I decided to setup a space for each subject and write sticky notes for each of my children under each task. This took a bit of time, but I think in the long term it will be of great benefit. Thinking I will suggest this to my student as well…

Now… how to motivate them to do the work! Next challenge.

Our exercise today was a boogie board at the beach. Things will be different tomorrow when the rain sets in. Enjoying the sunshine while it’s here.

How to socialize whilst staying at home: today was our first social Zoom with friends. Red wine, cheese and a couch. Not the same as being in the same room… but still nice to connect.

Day 9: loss and sadness… interesting articles and a Sea Kayaking dream.

Loss of my best mates father to cancer… the sadness is hard to bear. Whilst in Europe I contemplated if I could fly back so support her… now we are so close. Yet I am unable to visit her and give her the support she needs. Seems unfair…

Routine helps….

Morning = coffee in the sit hammock (when not cold, wet or windy)

Articles: what is going on in the world (other than Covid 19)

Activity: Today a paddle, put Star Wars on for the boys and took out a friends sea kayaks. Water this morning was like glass…

Evening: family game of some sort

Foot tiggi!

Day 8: Tuesday… what does it mean to be Tuesday?

Must be school holidays… puzzel time!!! Teaching a bit of world geography at the same time.

Doesn’t look it… but big surf today. We got smashed!

Zoom chat meeting for Heath, great for him to “see” his friends. Setup a LEGO challenge. Create a family…

Meet the Robinson’s. Mr & Mrs Gregory & Mia Robinson. Parents of John and Lara. Dog’s name? Spike.

So… I have decided to try and phone a person a day. Just to say Hi and keep in touch.

Day 6: 1.5 meter tool

A friend of mine suggested that this might be a great Social Distancing Tool – cattle prod

I started to reminiss about my time as a Divemaster in Training in Bega Lagoon Fiji… I was thinking about the metal pole we used to keep the tiger sharks away… might also be a good social distancing tool.

See diver on left…. great protection from the Tiger shark
Here is a short film of Bega Lagoon Diving…

Ahhh those were the days… The excitement for the today?

I got the printer working! Woo Hoo! 🙂

And…

Day 5: 1.5 meter rule

1.5 m mandated… easy to do that here. Feeling really blessed that we can still enjoy a good family surf session at home, where we all stand up!

Today was one of those ‘out of the box’ days where we could almost forget the troubles if the world. Feeling very strongly about our community and how many local families have has to close their business doors. Some really tough times on the way…

(Sorry for the good shot!)Best Australian burger ever! Roo patty, tomatoe sauce, beetroot, cheese, lettus, mayo, cooked pineapple, bacon and egg!
